report considers problems for source criticism using archival lists of records,
the main source of information for the inventorying and description of archival
documents according to the technology mandated by the Russian Archival Agency’s
digital program for 2011–2020, and for providing this information online.

The article summarizes the practice of designing a digital research
toolkit based on copies of the Old Russian Prolog miscellanies kept in
Siberian collections in Novosibirsk and Tobolsk. The authors justify the
significance of and prospects for designing these types of digital toolkits for
academic research on Old Russian encyclopedic-type miscellanies.

Digitization
of cultural heritage in Bulgaria is slowly following European trends. This
paper shows the results of an analysis of international standards and best practices
in digitization and the virtual exhibition of fine-arts collections. A case
study is undertaken: the collection of digital images of icons at the
Cyrillo-Methodian Research Center at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Since
the topic is interdisciplinary and wide, the focus is on digitization
pillars—long-term preservation, access and re-use—in the context of applying
state-of-the art standards like CIDOC-CRM.

The
selection of historical sources for digitization is based on user demand, preservation
needs, and scholarly value. Unique folklore materials are stored in the archives
of regional educational institutions, museums, and science centers. Digitization
is an urgent task of our time because of the danger of losing paper records and
should be done in conjunction with the creation of scientific descriptions.
Rules for describing folklore material are not standardized, making it
difficult to establish a common search engine.

Digitization
in the Scientific Archives of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is currently
focused on two areas: the creation of digital finding aids, name indexes and
geographical indexes, and the digitization of important papers and documents at
risk. Digitized inventories made in Word format are currently published on the
website of the Scientific Archives. Master copies of digitized documents are
stored in the TIFF format. This process aims to improve access to the archival
wealth of the Scientific Archives for a wide range of users while preserving
the original documents.
